About Botox for TMJ Therapy
Start with a jaw pain consultation
Jaw pain, stiffness, or discomfort when chewing can have different causes. At Broadway Dental, start with a conversation about your symptoms and an evaluation to help determine the next step.
Understanding Botox for TMJ therapy
Botox is a botulinum toxin treatment that relaxes muscles. It is sometimes considered for jaw muscle symptoms associated with temporomandibular disorders (TMDs).
Its use for TMD is off-label: it is not FDA-approved for this condition. Research results are mixed, and it remains unclear how effective it is for relieving TMD symptoms. It is not a guaranteed solution for jaw pain.
Talk through your options
Ask about simpler approaches first, as well as the potential benefits, risks, alternatives, and costs of Botox. Your consultation is an opportunity to decide whether this treatment belongs in your care plan.
